Resolution Update – March

by E.P. on March 14, 2010

(Obviously, I didn’t write an update for February, but I want to do this every month. You know, to keep myself on track.)

It’s been two months since I wrote down my resolutions for the year, and it’s time for an update. And a reality check.

Be all here.
I’ve actually been pretty successful with this one so far. I’ve been enjoying my time here in Nashville, and I cannot believe I’ve been here for three months! Not only have I been spending a lot of time with my fiance and our mutual friends, but I’ve gone out with old and new friends, too. And had one hell of a girls’ night last weekend.

Be active.
Major fail. Due to inclement weather and laziness, I’ve had a tough time with this resolution. Add that with a new schedule (due to a full-time job with real people hours), I haven’t been getting the exercise I need. And my pants aren’t fitting at all, which makes me really, really sad.

Along the same lines, be choosy about what I eat.
I’m definitely paying more attention to what I eat, and it looks like I will be participating in a CSA this summer, too! I seriously cannot wait for all the fresh fruit and veggie goodness. And I need to learn some new recipes to keep things varied in the kitchen.

Volunteer.
Still working on this one…

Compete.
Not happening… yet. I hope when the weather gets nicer, I can start training for a race sometime this summer in Nashville or a surrounding town.

Write more.
Working on this one, too. I’ve had LOTS of ideas of things to write, but I haven’t had the chance. I’m trying to block off a few hours every weekend to write — for myself, for my blogs and for freelance stuff. Because writing makes me happy. And because, apparently, y’all wish I would write more.

Stand on my own two feet, financially, with freelance photography.
Obviously, this is a MAJOR reach goal for the year. I’m working on revamping my photo Web site and that blog, and I hope to start advertising on some wedding blogs, as well as creating relationships with some of the magazines here in town. Oh, you need a photographer? Let’s talk!

Be brave.
I’ve never been a brave kind of person, but I’m getting better. I try to put myself out of my comfort zone for this purpose: I want to be braver. And I will be.

Obviously, I’ve got a ways to go before completing all of these goals, but I have good start (on some.) And hopefully, I’ll get better with the ones I have been struggling with. Especially since I plan to post about this every month, and I’d rather not embarrass myself by revealing, time and time again, that I’m a bum…

How are your resolutions looking right now?

um, how would you feel if i told you that you were the first person i thought of when i started thinking about wedding photographers? i'll obviously keep you posted and i have to talk to J about everything, which is still miles away, but just so you know.
  • Umm, I may have just squealed out loud when I read your comment! Aaaaaand please keep me posted. We'll chat. And it'll be good.

I cannot wait to hear what you're thinking, wedding-wise!
  • I don't actually make resolutions for the new year but I have to say that I absolutely love that your resolutions included "Be all here" and "Be brave." Not the common resolutions but ones that I often overlook in my own life.. Maybe I will resolve something along those lines right now, or at least I feel like I am doing better at being all here.

    Best,

    Hannah Katy
  • Thank you so much. I tried to make my resolutions things I overlooked in my life or took for granted, and it's been a lot of fun doing my best to accomplish them.

And being all here? Is totally more challenging than it sounds. But I know you can do it!
  • I didn't really make any resolutions, but I adore yours. They're what resolutions SHOULD be.
  • Thank you so much! I've made those shallow 'lose 5 lbs' resolutions before, and they are nowhere near as fulfilling as ones that make you make a bigger change in your life. Not that those resolutions are bad, but I find these are more challenging and more positive changes.
  • You've accomplished a lot, it still feels like the year just started. I actually didn't make any this year, at least not on paper. But I have been trying to be healthier, to answer emails, to say no sometimes. I'm doing okay.
  • I know. It really does feel like the year just started.

And I'm glad you are doing OK with your resolutions for the year. I have a hard time with all three of those sometimes, so I definitely understand. Keep it up!

if you find a race that you're doing in Nashville this summer, let me know. I will come do it with you =) Resolutions, especially big ones like financial stability & competing & etc take some time to grow into so I think the fact that they are still on radar is a big deal :)
  • Oh, YES. I will definitely let you know whenever I find a race that looks good. I've got to start training, but I think I did something bad to my heel/a tendon/something in my right foot. Sooo I'm going to have that looked at this week so I don't aggravate it any more than I need to.

And thank you, lovely! I think all my goals for the year will take a little time, but once I accomplish them, it'll be a BIG feat!
  • I'm glad you're keeping up with most of your resolutions! Good luck with the rest of the year! xoxo
  • Thanks so much! What about you? Do you have any resolutions for this year?
  • I'm so glad you're holding yourself accountable by doing this - it's the only way I find to keep myself on track, too :) Right now I'm on track with all except two of my resolutions - learning to drive and singing in front of people. But the other 5 are going well! :) And it's only March - you're doing really well considering it's only been a couple of months :)
  • Congrats on being on track for everything except two resolutions! And those two? You can totally do. It took me a while to get used to driving, but it's easy now. And singing in front of people? Nervewracking, but totally do-able. I know you can knock those two out!

And thank you! I think we're BOTH doing well on our resolutions!
  • I think you're off to a great start! We're only two months into the new year, you have plenty of time to get to everything :)
  • Thank you! Here's to hoping we can both knock everything off our lists!

I like that you're keeping yourself accountable with these! I can't wait to see where you go with your photography business. You're awesome.
  • Thank you! If I'm going to accomplish anything, I have to keep myself accountable. I fall off the wagon too easily if I don't have something keeping me going.

And I feel the same way -- I can't see where I go with the photo business, either. ;) Thank you! And I think you're awesome, too!

Go easy on yourself, m'dear! You have some pretty lofty goals that will take some time to achieve. And it's only the third month of the year!
You've achieved a few already, and for that, you should pat yourself on the back.
Can't wait to get some time off and come up to visit!
    Tell Lucy I said 'hello!'
  • Thanks, lovely! I feel like I've made some good headway on some of the goals so far. And I'm working on the others. ;)

I will definitely tell the pup hello, and I cannot wait to hang out! Let's make it happen soon because I miss you!
  • That is a big list of some pretty amazing goals! It sounds like you've got a good plan of attack in mind for each of them, and hey, we're less than a quarter of the way through the year, you've got plenty of time ;)
  • Thanks so much! I'm trying to have a plan of attach to be able to complete everything. (: We'll see how it works out, but I'm excited about my progress so far.
