2009 November 17
by E.P.

I went to a friend’s house freaking adorable condo with Rose last night, and the three of us celebrated the end of Monday with two huge bottles of wine and a cheese spread. It. Was. Awesome.

Four-ish hours later, after some fantastic conversation and a few too many glasses of chardonnay, Rose dropped me off at my little house. I was greeted by my pup, who was ecstatic I was finally home, then confused as to why I was stumbling around a little.

Confession: I doesn’t usually go out to dinner parties or out on the town here because, let’s face it, I don’t know too many people. And I don’t want to have to drive myself home if I accidentally get sloshed.

So we got ready for bed.

And then I woke up at 4:30 with a horrible headache, a dog who needed to tinkle and a bedroom entirely too cold.

After taking care of Lucy, turning on the furnace and taking a few pain pills, I decided to check my e-mail. Because that’s what every normal person does at 4:30 in the morning.

And then I saw an e-mail stating I had a gift on 20SB. I was sent a bottle of champagne, congratulating me for being the November Featured Blogger!

I freaked out a little, totally surprised, and then decided it would be a good thing to go back to sleep and celebrate in the morning.

So when I woke up at 8 this morning, I booted up my computer and went to the 20SB Web site. Just for fun.

Look to the left! That's ME!

That’s me! On the left side of the screen!

I just don’t have words, y’all. I’m thrilled and surprised and honored that so many of my peers nominated me, and that I am the Featured Blogger. I mean, there are more than 8,000 people in 20SB. That’s a lot of bloggers. And to be named the Featured Blogger? Craziness. That’s what it is.

So thank you, friends. So very much.

And since Erin did it last month, I’m calling out to you. Leave me comment and tell me something about yourself. Anything you want to share, really. What do you like to do when you aren’t working? If you could have one super power, what would you want it to be? When you were growing up, what was your favorite ice cream flavor? Is it the same today?

You can even ask me a question, if you would rather that. Just say something. Because I want to see all your smiling faces (or hear your voices?) this awesome month.

OK, go! And thanks again, y’all! You’re all amazing!

  • Congratulations, EP! A shared appreciation of SEC football brought us together, and I'm so glad we've grown so close over these last couple of years - well-deserved, Ms. Featured!

Favorite ice cream flavors were and still are Baskin Robbin's Peanut Butter/Chocolate and Mint Chocolate Chip. MMmmm.

But right now ice cream does not sound awesome as it is quickly approaching winter here.

Hope to/can't wait to see you over the holidays!
  • Thanks so much, lady! And it makes me laugh that SEC football brought us together. So random, but so fun.

Your favorite flavors are also mine, as weird as that is. We used to walk from Ridgeway to the Baskin Robbins for special days in elementary school, and I would always get the Peanut Butter/Chocolate ice cream while all my classmates got that disgusting bubble gum crap. And then I fell in love with mint chocolate chip. Yum!

It's still ice cream time down here, so come on! And I cannot wait to see you!
  • I KNOW THAT BASKIN ROBBINS! That's the one we'd go to, it was on the edge
of that strip mall right down the street from Ridgeway. My sister always
got the bubble gum crap and I hated that too! I remember the chunks of PB
    in that PB/Chocolate.

Ahhhh... I love how close our lives have always been, and really really love
that they crossed when they did :)
  • Too funny! And I'm glad I wasn't the only kid who thought that bubble gum stuff was disgusting. And, funny story, my mom lives around the block from that Baskin Robbins now. It's been a while since I've been there, but I always have random cravings for a mint chocolate chip milkshake whenever I drive by.

It's amazing to think we lived our lives so close and never met until a year-ish ago. I love it, though, and exactly how it happened. This Internet thing is pretty cool, huh?
  • I remember you saying she lived near Balmoral, and that's just right up the
street from there. Yeah, I can't believe how close our lives were and we met
    blogging.

    Kudos to 20sb :) xoxo
  • Yep. We lived on one end of the street right after I was born, and she lives on the other end now. Strange, but kind of fun.

I know. It amazes me how 20SB has brought so many of us together. It's truly mind-boggling when you think of it!
  • Congratulations!! Very well deserved, have fun this month! =)
  • Thanks so much, lady! I will do my best! And I hope you have fun this month, too, especially after you finish up everything school-related!
  • Congrats lady!!!!!
  • Thanks, Matt!
  • Congrats, EP! You were one of the first blogs I started reading back when I started Only Slight Neurotic, & you've always been a favorite.

I'm so happy you won this month- you totally deserve it! :)
  • Thanks so much, Melissa! Gosh! That was a LONG time ago, and Only Slightly Neurotic was one of my first blogs to start reading, too!
  • Nora_L
Congratulations! I must say as a reader it's been fun because a lot of the featured blogs are people that I already read and adore =) You deserve it. So, do you really get a bottle of champagne!? <3 you!
  • Thanks so much, love! I've enjoyed the past featured bloggers for the same reason. I love already knowing the person and their writing!

Haha. I don't know if I actually get a bottle of champagne. Probably not. And that's probably a good thing after last night. ;)
  • Congratualtions Chica!!
  • Thanks so much!
  • Totally deserved, and I want to personally apologize to keep you waiting:)

    So what's next? Disneyland?
  • Thanks, and it's totally OK. I was so surprised this morning!

Haha. Disneyland would be really nice. Or a vacation of any kind. Hmmm... ;)
  • Yay Erin! You totally deserve it! Congrats :)

I've been a chocolate chip ice cream kinda gal since forever!
  • Aww, thanks so much, Jamie!

I'm a big chocolate chip fan, too! It's so good.
  • Congratulations! So exciting!

Last night I tried Ben & Jerry's Creme Brulee ice cream...and it was insanely delicious. It reminded me why I don't usually keep ice cream in the house-- I could NOT put it down!
  • Thanks so much!

And that ice cream sounds absolutely fantastic. I haven't had that kind before, and it sounds dangerous. Ben and Jerry's strawberry cheesecake swirl is heavenly, and one of the reasons I don't keep ice cream in the house.
  • Congrats to you!
  • Thanks!
  • Ben
    SO well deserved!
  • Thanks so much, Ben! You're too sweet.
  • kimwithak
I saw that this morning as well and was so happy for you. You really deserve it!
  • Aww, thank you!
  • AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am so damn excited for you!!!!!!!!
i feel totally proud of you two erins! i feel impowered. how long do you think we can keep the erin trend going on 20sb? haha.

anyway i wish i could read people's minds for a super power. i know i'd probably hear a lot of things i didn't like, but thats okay. i still would want it. i value extreme honesty.

    i'm so proud of you!!!!!
  • Thanks so much, lady! It's exciting and kind of weird and cool and I just feel so honored. This is nuts!

Haha. I hope we can continue the Erin trend. That would be a lot of fun, heh.

I think reading minds would be interesting, too, but the whole hearing things I didn't want to know or like would be a deterrent for me. It would probably be a lot of TMI.
  • i hear ya. i wouldn't want to hear things like the dirty thoughts of a creepy old man. maybe i could have the power to read peoples minds completely at my whim... whenever i needed to? that could probably work.

p.s. congrats again. i'm totally excited for you!
  • I know. Those old creepy men. Eh. Or young creepy men. I don't ever
want to hear their thoughts, but mind reading might come in handy if
you only used it when necessary. Maybe? Since it's totally possible..

    And thanks, again!
  • ria
    congrats!!!
  • Thanks, Ria!
  • Congratulations, hun!! You very much deserve it. You definitely have the 20sb community spirit. It's quite inspiring. Keep on being awesome!
  • Aww, you are too sweet, Andrea! I really appreciate it and still cannot believe this happened!

You keep on being awesome, too!
  • Congrats, lady!!! You definitely deserve it! I always love your pictures you take - they're absolutely amazing! Maybe some time you can come out and take pictures for my non-profit's events.

    xoxo
  • Thanks so much, K.T.! I love that you love my photos, and i hope I can take some images for your non-profit sometime in the near future!
  • Congratulations!!
  • Thanks so much!
  • I am so excited for you! Congrats! Isn't it crazy to see your face on the front page like that? It weirded me out every time I saw it.

So, if I could have one super power it would be to...make a baby!

My favorite ice cream flavor growing up was mint chocolate chip, and it's still a favorite today!
  • Thanks so much, lady! It really is crazy to see my face on the front page. Something like this has never happened!

Mint chocolate chip is one of my favorites, too.

And that super power? I think you have it. (:
  • Seriously girl, you deserve it. Congrats lady. And a night of wine and cheese sounds like heaven.
  • Thanks so much, lady! And that night of wine and cheese really was heavenly. Love it.
  • Congratulations lady!! That's so exciting and you definitely deserve it. :)

As for ice cream, my absolute favorite always was and always will be soft-serve vanilla with either Oreo cookie pieces, chocolate sprinkles, or chocolate chips.
  • Thanks so much, lady! It's so surprising, and I feel so honored! It's weird to hear all y'all say I deserve it. ;)

I love soft-serve vanilla, too, but with rainbow sprinkles. If I'm getting frozen yogurt, that is my absolute FAVE.
  • Congrats!!! How are the wedding plans coming along?
  • Thanks so much, lady!

The plans are... slowly coming along, I suppose. We're still trying to hash out a location, but I hope to have that figured out by the middle of this month. Fingers crossed that we can work things out!
  • writetoreach
    Congrats on the feature!
  • Thanks so much, lady!
  • sleepyjane
Congrats EP! You totally deserve to be the featured blogger. xx :)
  • Aww, thanks! You're too sweet!
  • Congratulations!! You definitely deserve it!

Cookie dough ice cream is to die for!
  • Thanks so much! And chocolate chip cookie dough is delicious.

... After reading all these comments, I really want some ice cream.
  • AMinDinMoTown
Yayyyy!!! Like I said before, you're so very deserving of this. Congrats hun.

P.S. I love Turkey Hill brand Fudge Ripple ice cream, but you can't get it in NC. Bummer.
  • Thank you! I'm so happy y'all are celebrating this with me.

And I have never heard of that ice cream. What's it like? And why do
    you like it so much?
  • AMinDinMoTown
It's just vanilla ice cream with fudge swirled through it. But the brand is what I grew up on and it's sooooooo good. I've tried other ones that were similar, but nothing ever compared to Turkey Hill's Fudge Ripple.
  • Huh. I might have to give that a try when I'm in PA. Turkey Hill... I'll have to remember that!
  • aw congrats EP you totally deserve it! woo woo!
  • Thanks so much, Katelin! It's still so hard to believe but so exciting!
  • So deserved :)
  • Thanks so much!
  • nicoleantoinette
You're awesomeface. So excited for you and your (well deserved!) featured bloggerness. Super power? Fixing the hard things in my friends' lives.
  • Thanks so much, love!

I wish I had that super power, too. I think it would make a lot of
    lives easier.
  • Yay!! Congrats! My favourite ice cream flavour is candy cane, and it pretty much always has been.
  • Thanks so much, name twin!

Candy cane? I've never tried that before! I might have to give it a shot. Do you have a favorite brand?
  • Congratulations! Very cool! I'm glad something great happened after your one terrible week!
  • Thanks so much, lady! I'm glad something great happened after a terrible week, too!
  • Congratulations!!!

I'm a newish reader, but I love most of the ladies you have on your lil' blog roll there and found you through them!
  • Aww, fun! And thank you! I love making new bloggy friends through other friends. Love it, and I cannot wait to check out your blog!
  • Congratulations, EP! I don't comment as much, but I still read your blog regularly. This honor is well-deserved :-)

Let's see.... When I'm not working, I'm reading poetry collections (which really is work-related) or watching crime dramas like Criminal Minds on t.v. For a super power, I'd want to be able to jump to wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Like NYC, right now. Or the Bahamas in the next two hours. (Have you seen the movie, Jumper?) Growing up, I loved Baskin-Robbins' strawberry. These days, I'm even more plain but more child-like: vanilla with multi-colored sprinkles.

Oh, and congratulations on your engagement as well!
  • Aww, thank you so much!

It sounds like we do a lt of the same things when we aren't working. And I think that super power would be amazing. I would love to be able to hop over to Italy sometime in the near future. Or be able to hop from my town to Nashville and not have to spend six and a half hours in the car. And there is nothing wrong with vanilla and rainbow sprinkles. (Those are my fave!)

Thanks, lady! I'm so glad you stopped by!
  • workingmommy

  • Thanks, lady! And hooray for Southerners! It always makes me really happy to run into another person from the South. ... So where do you reside now?
  • Congrats!!
  • Thanks so much!
  • Congrats! thats awesome :)
