The start of a beautiful, new adventure

2009 October 4
by E.P.

So, as last Sunday’s post mentioned, there have been A LOT of changes in my life in a short amount of time.

Good changes.

Crazy changes.

Exciting, I-don’t-know-what-to-do-with-myself except have a wide, goofy smile on my face changes.

I’m still floored and exhilarated and giggly about the fact that we are engaged. I get chill bumps when I look down at my left hand to find the beautiful ring my boy had made specially for me. And I can’t help but grin when I think about last Saturday night.

I didn’t expect the proposal AT ALL, even though he and I had spoken many times about getting married, living life to the fullest and holding hands as we set foot on a new adventure. The more I think back to it, the more I should have figured there was something going on, but I didn’t put two and two together until after the fact. And I am totally OK with that because the proposal was perfect and the BEST surprise I could have ever asked for.

We are getting married! I will have a husband, and I will be a wife. In a little more than a year, I will become Mrs. E.P.S. (Weird! But cool!)

We don’t have a date yet. We don’t have a church or reception site yet. We don’t have much planned, other than we are going to be walking down the aisle sometime next winter or early spring. But I’m starting to do my research and am putting those wedding blogs I have been reading for wedding photography ideas to good use now.

I cannot help but think how lucky I am. And I cannot help but giggle (just a little!) when I say I have a fiancé.

Wedding planning: Let’s go!

  • Oh, yay! I'm really excited about the planning process and have begun to slowly hash things out with my boy and my family. We're going to be looking at locations sometime next month (since I have to work weekends this month. Boo.) And we'll be getting into more of the details once we have a place! Thanks!
  • Congrats again! Enjoy the planning, if you can.
  • Hey, thanks! It's a little overwhelming realizing you have SO MUCH to do with the planning, but I think it's going to be fun. And I've already created a little binder with wedding things. Nerdy, but fun.
  • Good for you! Believe me, a lifetime relationship can be a real adventure at times.
  • Aww, I love it! Thanks so much!

  • Aww honey I'm so excited for you. you will be such a beautiful bride. I can't wait to hear all about this!
  • Thanks so much, Jess! It's still so weird to think that I am going to be a bride. Wearing a gown. Doing all that jazz. But it's really exciting, and I have had TOO much fun cutting dresses I like out of wedding magazines... Yeah. That's what I've been doing planning-wise for the past week...
  • I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for you. This post just made me grin from ear to ear. So, so happy for you.
  • Aww, Erin! Thanks so much! It makes me so happy that y'all are celebrating along with me for this. It's such an exciting time!
  • I am SOOO happy for you!!!

  • aw yay i am so happy for you!!

seriously enjoy the engaged part, it's so fabulous. don't even worry about planning i say, we didn't plan anything for months and it was just glorious, woo!
  • Aww, Katelin! Thank you!

It's still so weird to be engaged. I get distracted by my hand. ;) And it makes me happy that you've gotten started on the planning, and it is glorious! I hope mine goes so smoothly!
  • I'm so, so excited for you. :) To a fun future!
  • Yay! Thank you! And agreed: To a fun future!
  • I'm handing you the torch now, my dear. Show the blogosphere that bloggers aren't bridezillas! (But you can secretly flip out to me, because lord knows I had my moments.)
  • Woohoo! Thanks, Renee! There haven't been any flip outs just yet, but I'm sure there will be one or two in the future...

I've told my boy and family that the only bridezilla tendency I will have will be about the photography. That's it. And I figure we'll figure out what to do with that somewhere along the line. ;)
  • Very exciting hun. I'm sure you'll have a great time planning the wedding, too.
  • Thanks so much! It's been a lot of fun looking at wedding magazines (specifically dresses in them) and thinking about what we want. I think it'll be fun, too!
  • ria
so excited for you, i can't wait to hear all about the planning! and how awesome it was a real surprise proposal!
  • Thanks so much! The planning hasn't gotten into full swing just yet simply because we're having the wedding in my hometown, and I work weekends this month. :/ So next month, we are driving to Memphis to check venues out, then the real planning will begin after that.

And the proposal? Thinking about it still makes me giggly. I was and still am so surprised. But apparently, I was the only one surprised. All our family members were like, "FINALLY!"
  • Woo! I am so excited for you too, this is so amazing! I'm dancing, just a little.
    Okay, I'm dancing a lot. =)
  • Thank you so much, Kyla! It really is amazing! I still cannot believe it. And yay for dancing!
  • hey girl! i am still so excited about this, let me know if you have ANY questions- i'm a professional. hahaha that sounds fo funny. but seriously let me know. i've been event planning for years. oh and the new link to my blog is http://www.erinuncensored.wordpress.com (its the exact same thing except subsituting .blogspot.com to .wordpress.com)
so glad we became friends last year and now we can be wordpress buddies!
    yay weddings!!!
  • Thanks so much, name twin!

Ooh. Good to know! I forgot about that. It's a shame you aren't based in my hometown, though.

I'm glad we became friends last year, too! Hope you're having a good day!
  • AhhhYay! Such exciting changes! Congratulations!
  • Thanks so much, Ashley!
  • Nora_L
You have to promise to tell me everything. I can't wait to hear all about it. I'm just beyond thrilled for you and the Boy. Wishing you nothing but the best in the coming year and of course, for the rest of your lives. You deserve every ounce of happiness that has come your way. Hugs & love!!!
  • I definitely will! Thanks so much, Nora! You're too sweet, and it makes me so excited that my friends here are celebrating this good news along with me. Love it. And we need to catch up ASAP.
  • That's so exciting! Reading that seriously made me smile, you're happiness is contagious. Congrats again!
  • Aww, thanks so much, Andrea!
  • so happy for you! congrats over and over!
  • Thank you so much!
  • Congrats! I'm so happy for you! You'll have to show us pictures of the ring!! :)
  • Aww, thank you! It's a celebration! And I need to post some better photos of the ring. The one we put on the engagement post isn't cutting it..
  • I love that you had no idea it was coming. I did have an idea it was coming and was not very nice about it ... in fact, I seem to recall having a tantrum the day of the proposal. Yeah, good and adult of me, no? hahah. Anyway, take in this time. Stare at the ring. Daydream. Do all the things a newly engaged person is supposed to do! And more power to you for feeling giddy when saying Fiance. I felt uncomfortable at best, and usually just introduced him / referred to him by name instead of saying Fiance. Husband is much easier to say!
  • Thank you so much, Nilsa! It's so funny that you knew your ring was coming sometime soon and maybe threw a tantrum the day of. If nothing else, it makes an amusing story.

I feel like I'm in a lull right now before the actual planning begins because I need to go home to look at venues. So for the rest of the month, I'll be doing those things a newly engaged person is supposed to do. And continue them as the planning gets into full swing. (:
  • This post made me smile this morning and I am so happy for you!
  • Aww, that's so sweet! Thank you so much!
  • sleepyjane

  • Aww, CONGRATS again!! That is so exciting! I'm looking forward to reading about your wedding planning :-)
  • Aww, thank you so much! I look forward to starting the wedding planning and hashing out all the details. I've been reading wedding blogs for the past six-ish months to get an idea as to how I need to photograph weddings, and now, I can capitalize on them!
  • shobhna
*squeals again* Have I mentioned ohmygoderiniamjustsohappyforyou?! Cause I am! I am! <3
  • Yay! Shobhna! Thank you so much! Isn't this just CRAZY?
  • That's exactly the way it's supposed to be. I mean, I've never been engaged before, but I would imagine that that's the way it's supposed to be. That's the way I hope to feel, anyway.

    Congrats girl!
  • (: I think it's the way it is supposed to be, too. I hope it doesn't get old. And I hope you feel the same thing when you get engaged. Because it's ridiculous!

    Thanks so much, Akirah!
  • I'm so happy and excited for you! Keep us informed on the wedding plans!!!
  • Thanks, Becky! I definitely will keep y'all informed on the adventures and missteps of wedding planning!
