On wedding planning

by E.P. on October 26, 2009

Like most recently-engaged girls, I’ve been enjoying the numerous bridal magazines I picked up at the store (and the library!)

I have started a binder and am tearing out pages as needed from these said magazines. (Unless, of course, they’re from the library, and then I’m scanning them and printing them out.) You know, to help with the wedding planning.

One of the first things on my mind, other than setting a date and finding a location is my dress. Because there are so many beautiful (and gaudy) gowns out there. And, to top the gorgeousness off, some ads? Are absolutely ridiculous.

The following is one of my favorites, and my friend Rose and I spent quite some time giggling about it. Trust me. You’ll see it immediately, too.

I mean, honestly? The groom clearly is there to accentuate the bride’s beauty — that’s it. And to not wear anything at all…

Also? The groom looks pasted into a lot of ads like this. (We found another one tonight that I need to scan.) And that makes me laugh, too, but it’s the nudity that really tops it off for me.

Who made that decision? And how in the WORLD could they think it was a good idea? Because I seriously doubt any groom I know would simply stand around in the nude while his bride hangs out in her dress.

Just sayin’…

Hey, thanks so much!

I cannot wait 'till I try on dresses, but I cannot even imagine the kind of craziness you dealt with working at a dress shop. I don't want to be a dramatic bride. I think that makes it easier on everyone, right?

E.P. October 29, 2009 at 8:42 pm

Heh, I don't know, but THANKS! SO much!

It's such an exciting time. I still get gushy about it just thinking about things…

Nora_L October 30, 2009 at 8:44 am

My stupid computer won't let me see the picture. le Sigh.

At any rate, I'm glad you're enjoying wedding planning. And I miss you too! And yes, we must hang out soon. LOVE YOU!

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 11:40 am

Isn't that just ABSURD?

When I first saw the ad, I didn't even notice the dress.

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 11:40 am

Isn't it? It makes me laugh. I've seen some ridiculous things so far.
And I know I'll see a lot more before this journey is done.

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 11:40 am

Hahaha. Me neither. I was distracted by the guy's ass for the first
minute of looking at that ad…

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Umm, yeah. Isn't it ridiculous?

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Heh. He DOES have a nice behind…

The nudity, though, just kind of throws me off. Sure, it's brilliant and
makes people look twice, but the groom being undressed as the bride stands
and poses in her gown? Impossible…

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Oh no! Let me see if I can look that up real quick for you…

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Ha! Exactly!

As one of my friends put it once before a dance when I was young and
innocent, “It doesn't matter what the dress looks like. What he'll notice is
when it's crumpled up on the ground.”

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

And you just hit the nail on the head! I totally didn't think about this
until I saw your comment was like, “Oh. That totally makes sense!”

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Haha. That's awesome. I was never the girl who had anything thought out or
planned for my wedding (other than a list of things I DON'T want), so I feel
like I'm kind of scrambling. But this whole planning thing is a lot of fun,
even if budgeting and other things are sometimes a pain in the ass.

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

That's exactly the same reaction I had. And then lots and lots of laughter.

Because I'm mature like that…

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Isn't it? Thinking about it makes me laugh, as well as thinking about other
random ads I've seen where I guy's face has been PASTED INTO the ad, without
a regard for how the human figure looks. And proportions. (:

Thanks so much! It has been fun so far, and I hope it continues to be!

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Umm… yes. Naked groom and me in a princess-y dress?

Heh. It sounds like a fantastic idea to me! ;)

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Major boo hiss.

I am trying to find the original post so y'all can see it…

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Haha, you've got a point there. And your comment just made me laugh. Love
it!

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Aww, you make me smile. I don't know how much wedding planning blogging
there will be, simply because I don't want to bore everyone. And we have
absolutely NOTHING planned so far, other than three potential dates and my
bridesmaids. Eh. It's coming along slowly.

Isn't that ridiculous? But then again, a lot of the bridal ads I've seen are
pretty ridiculous…

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Haha, love it! Do you have your dress already?

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Exactly. Hilarious, but ridiculous.

Because that's TOTALLY going to happen…

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Isn't it? I was so surprised and shocked by the guy at first that I didn't
even notice the gown!

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Thanks, lady!

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Haha, I know, right?

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Haha, it was the same for me!

Stuff like that is distracting!

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

No idea. Your guess is as good as mine.

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Oh, too funny! Aren't they?

And my binder is going to be SO RIDICULOUS when you see it. Just saying and
warning you, in advance…

sforshner October 30, 2009 at 12:23 pm

I did, I think…

The place I found it is run by one woman. She was on vacation for a couple
of weeks so I am waiting to take my mom to show her before I buy. She's
supposed to be back this week, but her voicemail says she's out due to a
death in the family.

Hopefully it's still the “one” because I haven't been looking since I found
it a few weeks ago :)

How are your plans?

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:32 pm

True, but it appears to be working. Which is so weird to me!

The guy still distracts me from the dress, though.

E.P. October 30, 2009 at 12:38 pm

Hey, thanks for stopping by!

You work at a dress shop?! Wow. I can only imagine the things you have to
deal with. Though I'm really excited about trying them on. I promise I won't
be a crazy bride. ;)

Erin October 30, 2009 at 7:15 pm

Ok, this is too funny. And weird. And kind of creepy.

Emma October 31, 2009 at 12:49 am

Haha!!

E.P. November 1, 2009 at 6:52 am

Aww, sad. I've been having issues finding the original post. :/

I am enjoying it, even though I've let it stress me out sometimes. It's so easy to get overwhelmed, and you have to take a step back to say, 'The end result of this is what I want.'

Yay! I love you and miss you and we will hang out!

E.P. November 1, 2009 at 6:52 am

Ha yeah. I mean… I guess I'm just easily distracted by nudity.

E.P. November 1, 2009 at 6:53 am

I know, right?!

Allie November 1, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Wow, that definitely made me laugh. That's the most ridiculous ad I've ever seen.

Gooseberried November 4, 2009 at 11:17 pm

You should definitely mimick that in your wedding. Sure, it'll be surprising to everyone at first and horrifying to most old people, but then everyone will be excited because, if the ceremony's got nudity, think of the reception! What a party that would be.

E.P. November 10, 2009 at 11:02 am

Isn't it, though? I've laughed about it a lot recently, as I've seen the same ad in magazines over and over.

E.P. November 10, 2009 at 11:02 am

Haha, that WOULD make it a fantastic party, huh?
