Reasons why I love Lucy: Her quirks

Since she’s still not home and since I miss her, let’s talk about Lucy Belle and her quirks.

My dog, like all dogs, has a personality that makes her a little different than other pups.

For example, she chases her tail but she’s so swift-footed that she catches it within one turn. Instead of dropping it or stopping the chase (or even dropping it, then starting the chase again), she clenches her tail in her mouth as she spins around my den for minutes at a time.

She plays with her food. More often than not, I’ll see a milkbone fly across the room, Lucy Belle following closely behind. She’ll pick it up and toss it back across the room, taking off in pursuit again.

She doesn’t like to get her paws wet. She gives me the ‘Are you kidding?’ look whenever I try to lead her into dewy morning grass. She would MUCH rather pee on the pavement, thankyouverymuch.

She likes to stretch. But it’s not a normal doggy stretch. It involves her front legs going one direction and her hind legs going the other while she’s lying on the ground. (Does this mean she’s double jointed in her hips?)

Whenever I’m in the kitchen making dinner or fixing any sort of food, she sits down next to me, so close that she’s leaning on me, and looks up expectantly as if sitting while I cook is going to get her a treat! (OK, maybe it will…)

Whenever I’m in the bathroom (whether it be getting ready, putting on makeup, showering, whatever), she sprawls out on the end of my bed so she has a clear line of sight into the bathroom. My room is door is adjacent the bathroom.

She picks the perfect time to give me kisses. Whether it’s in the middle of the night after I’ve awoken her by sobs (thanks a lot, J.K. Rowling) or when I’m having a bad day, she knows her kisses work wonders.

What are some of your pup’s quirks?

Awww I am so sorry to hear that she is not home yet.

My puppy (well, not a puppy because she is 5) loves running after balls. Usually, Bernese Mountain Dogs don't like to play fetch, but she loves it.

She has a great trick- she is obsessed with food, but will sit, let us put a treat on her nose and then wait to eat it until we say "okay." Usually she then uses her nose to throw the treat in the air and catch it in mid-flight.

Here's hoping your pup comes home soon!
  • What a great post! I'm feeling very inspired so maybe i'll write one about Penny pooh.

BTW she does the same streching with the legs, check out her video here http://melissaisblogging.blogspot.com/2008/08/a... sorry, don't know how to do the href url thingy yet...

    Lucy Belle is super cute!
  • awe, lucy is so adorable. i love that she watches you from the bed when you're in the bathroom.

my pooch? she loves laying in warm laundry fresh out of the dryer. its so cute.
  • My niece has a border collie. The puppy follows me everywhere. When I sit down, she plunks herself down on my feet.

I think my allergies make her love me more.

I love that picture of the puppy!! One of my puppies (the Australian Shepherd) his right ear never stands up straight, it's always bend sideways. Even when he hears a noise, that ear still remains bent. It's so weird, but so cute! And my other puppy, a Pomeranian, he sleeps on the back of our couch (like up on the top part) and prefers sleeping there than on the floor or in a bed! So weird!
  • I don't have a pup, but my kitty is quite quirky! Gus has grown accustomed to sitting on the armrest of the couch when I'm sitting there. When he's on the armrest, he crosses his front paws. He sleeps with his head on a pillow. He likes to play in the toilet and he likes to leave his toys in the toilet. Even though he is no longer anti-social, he still hides in the Lazy Boy during the day unless I'm in the room... and then he has to sit on my lap or on my computer. He's cute. :-)
