Finally kicking back and relaxing…

by E.P. on August 27, 2008

Because of national news events happening in my neck of the woods, I was called in on my two days off. My only time off before my 10-day working stint.

It was definitely worth it, though, for various reasons.

For one, my stuff ended up on the wire. Which is awesome.

My co-worker and I made a game plan in case Gustav comes to visit. And by a game plan, I mean talked about who was going where. We even bought supplies that are good to have lying (see: power converter to charge camera batteries and laptops in car, tarp, Fix-a-flat, etc.) around just in case.

We even talked about how we were going to evacuate our pets. (If things get bad, his parents are going to Tennessee, and they can take Lucy to my mom or sis.)

The thought of a hurricane coming makes me nervous. Like the shake in your boots kind of nervous. I lived through Katrina, and it wasn’t pretty. I cannot imagine what another large storm would do to NOLA. And if Gustav hits us, it will hit the Crescent City, too.

Scary.

But I’m sure that since we have talked about this all, the storm will burn out or turn unexpectidly to Mexico or the Atlantic where we won’t get a bit of it.

We shall see.

And since I worked on my two days off, I was given today off. I have been thoroughly enjoying myself.

While Lucy woke me up around 7 a.m., I promptly fell asleep on the couch watching the Today show. I woke up around 11 a.m., then we headed out on our daily walk. (I even wore my $20 new sneakers!)

This afternoon? Lucy and I are hanging out. I’m catching up on quite a bit of reading. I’m also cleaning the entire apartment, washing clothes and ironing wrinkled clothing.

It should be exciting.

What about you, Internets?

  • I love relaxing days like that it's the best feeling knowing that you can finally kick back and relax. I hope everything turns out okay with the storm
  • yes very cute shoes!
and I hope that the hurricane doesn't hit you. I'll pray that it doesn't hit anyone.
  • How come we never get to see your handwriting?
  • I love those shoes! I can't believe they were only $20!
  • I've never understood why journalists have reports in the middle of a hurricane and you can see them practically blowing away. It's not necessary, I don't want you to get hurt. Trust me, if you just TOLD me it's bad out there, I'd believe you. haha
  • you deserve to relax a lil.... try and enjoy the time off you have!
  • Damn hurricanes!

    Cute shoes!
  • Cute kicks!
I'll send magic anti-hurricane mind bullets down south for you. I hope it helps.
  • I lived through Hurricane Andrew in South Florida, so I know what you mean about "shaking in your boots" nervous. Having said that, at least you can see them coming while Californians never know when the "big one" earthquake is going to hit.
  • What? 20 dollars!? For those shoes!? How!?

Okay, now that I've used my exclamation & question mark quota for the day...

I wonder if I'd love or hate the erractic nature of your schedule. Hmmm...I love variety, but also love routine.
  • Good luck with the storm!

I've been cooking dinner for a friend, which turned out really well. My boyfriend's at a camping site right now with the new first year students of the uni where he teaches. I haven't been home alone like that in about 3 years (even though I lived on my own for just as long before that) and because this isn't the best neighbourhood, I'm kinda nervous...
  • I'm so jealous of the new sneakers!
Sounds like you have a fun day off planned :) Haha. Today was mine as well, seeing as every day I either have class or work or both.. so I'm spending it lounging with the boy and finally catching up on the google reader.
  • I hope everything turns out okay with the hurricane!

I'm not sure how to describe what I've been up to, but it's been too much for my liking. I just want to go home and go to bed.
  • Those sneakers are FANTASTIC! How did you get them for $20? I love them.
  • Nice shoes.

    good pickup for $20.

I am working...nothing fun at all.
