Because of national news events happening in my neck of the woods, I was called in on my two days off. My only time off before my 10-day working stint.
It was definitely worth it, though, for various reasons.
For one, my stuff ended up on the wire. Which is awesome.
My co-worker and I made a game plan in case Gustav comes to visit. And by a game plan, I mean talked about who was going where. We even bought supplies that are good to have lying (see: power converter to charge camera batteries and laptops in car, tarp, Fix-a-flat, etc.) around just in case.
We even talked about how we were going to evacuate our pets. (If things get bad, his parents are going to Tennessee, and they can take Lucy to my mom or sis.)
The thought of a hurricane coming makes me nervous. Like the shake in your boots kind of nervous. I lived through Katrina, and it wasn’t pretty. I cannot imagine what another large storm would do to NOLA. And if Gustav hits us, it will hit the Crescent City, too.
Scary.
But I’m sure that since we have talked about this all, the storm will burn out or turn unexpectidly to Mexico or the Atlantic where we won’t get a bit of it.
We shall see.
And since I worked on my two days off, I was given today off. I have been thoroughly enjoying myself.
While Lucy woke me up around 7 a.m., I promptly fell asleep on the couch watching the Today show. I woke up around 11 a.m., then we headed out on our daily walk. (I even wore my $20 new sneakers!)
This afternoon? Lucy and I are hanging out. I’m catching up on quite a bit of reading. I’m also cleaning the entire apartment, washing clothes and ironing wrinkled clothing.
It should be exciting.
What about you, Internets?
